Feature of the hazelnut root system, as a multi-stemmed bush, is that each trunk develops its own autonomous roots. In this study the extent of root system depth and width (volume) was evaluated. The volume of the root system depends on the cultivation methods and the tree shaping methods (single trunk trees, multiple trunk trees, multi-stemmed bush with three trunks coming from three saplings that are planted 20 cm from each other.
It is noted that in the 8 years old hazelnut orchard cv.Visoka, the root system volume of multiple trunk trees from one sapling is smaller than the root system volume of single-trunk trees and smaller than that of multi-stemmed bush with three trunks coming from three saplings, 0.78m3 0.9 m3 and 1.37m3respectively. While the depth of the root system of three variants was respectively 0.35m.0.33m and 0.27m, their yield / tree was respectively, 1,657kg, 1,795kg and 1,990kg.
